A Childhood Memory on Paper
This original sparrow painting with red shoeflowers (hibiscus) on A3 paper is rooted in memory. For me, sparrows and shoeflowers are tied to childhood and simple joys.
Why I Painted Sparrows with Shoeflowers
I remember red shoeflowers (hibiscus) from where I grew up, and also from my native village. In the village, as children, we would take the little green part of the flower and press its sticky end onto a fingernail—my whole hand with those fingernails looked cool. Painting sparrows with shoeflowers blends those memories and evokes childhood memories.
